The State Government has approved as Samba District vide Government Order No: 1345-GAD of 2006 dated: 27.10.2006 and headed by Nodal Officer for setting up of administrative infrastructure and complete preliminary work for the newly approved district . On the recommendations of the demarcation Committee report the District Samba comprises as under;

Tehsil Samba having forty Patwar Halqa with three hundred and thirteen villages after deletion of 20 villages, two hundred and ninety three villages attached with Samba District.

Sixty four villages of two Agrarian circles 08 and 09 of Tehsil Bishnah which are geographically very closed attached with the District Samba .

Eleven Villages of Pathwar Halqa Surinsar, Sagoon and Kothar of Tehsil Jammu and Pathwar Halqa Chhanni Mansar comprising of three Villages of Tehsil Ramnagar District Udhampur are also attached with the Samba District . Keeping in view the contiguity and over all development of twin Lakes Surinsar and Mansar .

Eighty One Villages of entire C. D Block Ghagwal Tehsil Hiranagar District Kathua has attached with the newly created Samba District.

The Samba District comprises of Seventy two Patwar Halqas and four hundred seventy two villages. This way the New District Samba will become a viable and composite administrative unit.

The newly created Samba District functioning with effect from 01.04.2007 vide Government Order No; 233-GAD of 2007 dated 06.03.2007 in the SIDCO Guest House, Samba.
